The firefighter checks the truck at the start of the shift, making sure the hose is coiled properly and the water tank is full. When the alarm sounds, boots and helmet go on within seconds, and the truck is already pulling out onto the street. On arrival, the hose gets connected to the nearest hydrant, and everyone waits for the signal from teammates before opening the water flow. The extendable ladder goes up to check the upper windows and make sure no one is left inside.
