Tucked between the waving arms of a sea anemone, the little clownfish in this picture has found the safest home in the whole reef. Most fish would be stung by an anemone, but the clownfish has a special slimy coat that keeps it from getting hurt, so it can hide there whenever a hungry predator swims by. Here is another surprise: every clownfish is born male, and some later change into females as they grow. To bring it to life, color the body a bright sunset orange and leave the three bold stripes a clean white, then trace each stripe with a thin line of black. Imagine the warm, sunlit water of a coral reef all around it, full of waving green tentacles and shimmering bubbles drifting toward the surface.
