During a walk, a dog moves with its nose pressed to the ground, following a trail only it can pick up on, and stops short every time something new grabs its attention. If it hears a knock at the door, it barks a couple of times and runs to see who's arrived. It likes resting its head on its front paws when it takes a break, eyes half-closed and ears ready to shoot up at the smallest noise. After running around the yard, it lies still for a while panting, tongue hanging out, until it catches its breath. At night it always picks the same spot to curl up and sleep.
