The fist cuts through the air with a sharp strike and the karateka snaps right back into stance, knees bent, feet planted firm. The belt wraps twice around the waist with both ends hanging even. Every move starts with a short breath pushed out through the mouth right at the moment of impact, like a quick, sharp sound. Bare feet slide across the mat without a sound, and the hands open and close between one technique and the next. During the bow, the back folds forward with the eyes down for a moment before rising again. The white karate gi is held together by a sash that wraps the whole body. You can pick the colors for the belt and the gi however you'd like to imagine them.
