Every so often it slips and slides belly-first for a stretch before struggling back onto its feet. It huddles close to other chicks for shelter from the wind while waiting for its parents to come back. It stretches its neck and opens its beak whenever it hears a familiar sound among the group, trying to figure out who's approaching. At times it stands still, feathers puffed up, staring out at the gray horizon.
