A coconut hangs high among the palm fronds, wrapped in a husk that feels rough and fibrous to the touch. Shake one near your ear and you can hear water sloshing inside, like a small wave trapped in a wooden box. The outside is brown and hairy, while the inside holds flesh that pulls away in strips when scraped with a spoon. Opening one takes some effort: you have to find the soft spots at the tip and tap carefully until they give way.
