The parrot usually perches on the pirate's shoulder, holding on with its feet while the ship rocks from side to side. Every so often it stretches its wings and hops over to the nearest mast, where it stays watching everything from above. Its feathers ruffle a little when strong wind blows, and it looks for shelter under some ledge on deck when rain starts falling. At mealtime, it prefers to stay close to whoever has something in their hands, waiting patiently for its turn. When the ship reaches land, it often flies off toward the nearby trees to stretch its wings.
